Special focus on the new sector-specific Security Operations Centre solution ‘CybAirSOC’
From 22 to 24 October 2024, SAMA PARTNERS was represented at it-sa expo & congress in Nuremberg with a presence at the TeleTrusT joint stand. Over the past few years, it-sa has established itself as Europe's leading trade fair for IT security. TeleTrusT, the German IT Security Association, is a premium partner of it-sa and has been an active supporter of the show since its inception in 2009. SAMA PARTNERS, a long-standing TeleTrusT member and official regional representative of TeleTrusT in Baden-Württemberg, was represented alongside 19 other members on the 168 square metre joint stand in Hall 9.
Aside of the SAMA PARTNERS service portfolio, we put a special focus on the new sector-specific Security Operations Centre solution ‘CybAirSOC’ which is developed with the Munich Airport with the aim of improving the resilience of the aviation sector's cyber security through a faster detection and response to cyber security incidents and threats.
SAMA PARTNERS and Flughafen München GmbH have formed a consortium to build “CybAirSOC” for the European aviation sector. The consortium ensures both state-of-the-art cyber security knowledge and sector-specific expertise, both of which are necessary for the success of the project. The project was well received by the visitors of the booth and was clearly a highlight project for SAMA PARTNERS at the it-sa show.
This year's edition of it-sa more than lived up to its reputation as the central meeting place for the IT security community in the centre of Europe. An increase in visitor numbers of a full third compared to the previous year, including an even higher growth rate from abroad, demonstrates the importance of this event. 25,830 trade visitors from 65 countries (2023: 19,449, 55 countries) and 897 exhibitors (2023: 795) underlined its importance as a leading sector event.

CybAirSOC – well received by 150 participants
In an era of ever-increasing digital threats, security compliance is a crucial element of corporate strategy. The NIS2 EU-Directive and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) in particular mark milestones in European legislation that redefine how cyber risks are handled. Against this backdrop, SAMA PARTNERS’ 9th CYBERSECURITY CONFERENCE deliberately focussed on the topic of security compliance. On 16 and 17 October 2024 at the Baroque Palace in Mannheim, participants learned how these regulations affect organisations, and which steps are essential for a future-proof compliance strategy.
In this context, the EU co-funded project “CybAirSOC” was also presented to around 150 interested participants of this conference. The Director EAM and Cyber Security at Munich Airport, kindly made himself available as a speaker and inspired the audience with the topic of “CybAirSOC – the aviation sector-specific SOC-solution” on the first day of the conference. Geelhaar pointed out that Cybersecurity is at the heart of the digital transformation of the European Union and explained the sector-specific concept of the CybAirSOC project and why the solution is key for airports. He also presented the timeline of the single steps for the monitoring and detection solution, as well as for the integration of SAMA PARTNERS AI-supported cyber threat intelligence platform “ThreatBay” until end of 2026.
About SAMA PARTNERS’ CYBERSECURITY CONFERENCE: What began with the idea of creating a forum on the topic of IT and internet security became a reality for the first time in December 2016. Since then, SAMA PARTNERS Business Solutions GmbH and its partners, have organised a highly appealing programme on the topic of cybersecurity, every year. With the combined expertise of selected experts from business, industry, science and administration, the aim of this conference is to further strengthen knowledge about a wide area of cybersecurity-related topics through targeted information and dialogue, the involvement of participants and expert insights into the digital future. Showing the path to sector-specific SOCs for the aviation industry
The Airport Council International (ACI) is an active association with members from airport operators of all sizes and national airport associations, world business partners and educational institutions that are working together to ensure an effective communication and advocacy with legislators, technicians, environmentalists, passengers, business partners and other stakeholders.
ACI represents over 500 airports in 55 countries. Its members handle over 90% of commercial air traffic in Europe. Air transport supports 13.5 million jobs and generates €886 billion in European economic activity (4.4% of GDP). In response to climate change, members committed in June 2019 to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 for the aviation operations under their control without offsetting measures. The European airport industry is overseen and managed from Brussels.
At the first meeting of the ACI EUROPE Cyber Security Committee in Munich from 9-10 April 2024, SAMA PARTNERS’ coordinator of the project, presented the CybAirSOC project to the participants. The presentation, which was included in the agenda under the topic of “AI and Cyber Threats”, aimed to show the path to the realisation of sector-specific security operations centres for the aviation industry. CybAirSOC® aims to create a core for the aviation sector's cybersecurity ecosystem to strengthen airports' cyber threat detection capabilities and enable a sector-tailored approach to sharing cyber threat intelligence, both within the industry community and with other stakeholders such as public authorities.
